The progressive Powder Rocker profile is built to dish out supremely versatile float that excels in powder, crud, corn, or anything in between, with a generous amount of rocker in the tip and a moderately raised tail that provides killer float and gives you easy and fluid turn initiation no matter where you are on the mountain. The Automatic's made to be ridden fast, though, so Atomic gave it plenty of camber underfoot, which helps you hold a rock-solid edge during those speed-freak runouts or when you do take it to the frontside for some hard-charging groomer schralping. A ski that's meant to move between the backcountry and resort has to balance weight and stiffness, and Atomic's poplar Light Woodcore and Step-Down Sidewall construction does the trick. Poplar's light, poppy, and fun to ski, so the Automatic will never have a dead, dull feel, and it keeps the ski to a manageable eight pounds per pair, so hitting the skintrack won't make you hate life. The Step-Down Sidewalls also reduce weight by combining powerful and stiff full sidewalls underfoot with a half-cap construction in the tip and tails to reduce vibration, cut down on swing weight, and give the Automatic a buttery feel whether you're chasing fresh turns or tricking your day down off trail-side hits.
